April 19 - 21, 2012

The ABET Symposium is the premier event for assessment and professional technical accreditation processes.

Providing a stellar opportunity to interact with peers, the Symposium offers hands-on workshops, engaging presenters, details on the latest developments in accreditation practice, and so much more. The 2012 ABET Symposium is your chance to network and share successes and challenges with the extended ABET community to assure quality in technical education. It's the not-to-be-missed event of accreditation and assessment!

In addition to the Symposium itself, take advantage of the Pre-Symposium Workshops or the Program Assessment Workshop.

Why the ABET Symposium Matters

  • Equip yourself with valuable insight, tips, and strategies from more than 60 presenters from all over the world.
  • Tailor the Symposium to meet your unique needs with a variety of peer-review sessions in four educational tracks: Innovations in Technical Education, Program Assessment, Preparing for Accreditation, and Program Evaluator Updates.
  • View well-constructed, recent Self-Study Reports that have been nominated by other Team Chairs in the Symposium Self-Study Report Room. For the first time, program representatives will be available to answer questions about the Self-Study Reports and their programs.
  • Discover how your peers are using technology to enhance their assessment and accreditation experience.
  • Participate in roundtable discussions with accreditation commission leaders, interact with colleagues, and learn the latest developments in ABET accreditation practice.

The Opening Plenary

8:30 - 9:20 a.m.

Assessment best practices aren't worth much if we aren't being innovative in the programs and classroom experiences. Technical education remains largely conventional; however, technical professionals who can tackle 21st century issues must be fluent in more areas and have more skills in interdisciplinary approaches. To ensure this fluency, education experiences and practices must change substantially. How do we use our continuous improvement practices to provide the quality, currency and relevancy that our students deserve? The challenge to each of us is to implement these practices so that those driving the educational experiences, in the classrooms and beyond, can make evidence-based decisions.
